iray renders without color

I am using Maya 2018 and just installed the iray plugin. When I render, the items are gray, as if they do not have any texture or color assigned to them. I did a test where I put a Rubber texture on a tire with an orange color. But, in the render window the tire is only gray. I am using a directional light and a plane white backdrop. If you can tell me what I am not doing right I would greatly appreciate it.

Use Iray materials.

I am, albeit from a download for 3dmax. But iray is iray. The material is the same. I’m using the standard light from Maya. Could that effect it? I have lights for Vray but not for iray. I’ll try those and see. I see the render in the Arnold render window ok but no color or texture in the iray window.
