I need to blend between two lambert shaders that have transparency which I am using as a viewport shader. I tried using a blend node but the transparency doesnt pass through to the shader group.  Is there any other way to accomplish this with lamberts?   I also tried the aiMixShader but it doesnt appear to work correctly with non Arnold materials.

have you tried Maya's native LayeredShader or Layered Texture? Works close to what Photoshop blending modes do.
