Arnold overiding AOV´s not working

Hello,

I am rendering a scene in Maya with several render layers. I have set AOV´s for my layers, having the typical main ones (sss, albedo, RGBA_light aov´s, Z and so forth).

My AOV´s are embedded in the exr render, so only one file per frame per layer. But when I try to create overides so those AOV´s won´t show up in other layers (like Shadow layer, occlusion layer, etc) the render stops and won´t batch render for any of those layers that have any AOV overide. If I remove the overide those layers render well but of course they include way more data taht I need. I am using absolute paths like:

C:\WhateverShotname\<RenderLayer>\v###\<RenderLayer>

Any hint on why this might be happening?

Thanks,

Antonio

Hi @antokoman

If you make a simple scene with some cubes and try the same process with your overrides does the issue still occur?

Also this might not be what you're looking for, but you could try going to your Render Globals and go to your AOVs tab then select the driver by clicking the small downward arrow next to a custom pass. Check "Merge AOVs"  under the Advanced Output tab. You can also select the defaultArnoldDriver from the Outliner if you prefer. Your AOVs will no be written to a single exr file but should have all of the layers.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Sorry Sean for taking so long.

I just replicated this with a very simple scene. I have created 2 Layers and used 4 AOV´s, Z, N, P and albedo. In one of the layers I didn´t do any AOV overrides, in the second one I did overide them and deactivated them (by going to the AOV´s section of the Render Settings window, right click - > Create Override for Visible Layer and deactivating it)

Then I Batch render and the first Layer renders no problem, second one as soon as it starts rendering fails and doesn´t output anything.

This is what I get in the mayaRenderLog.txt

Warning: "C:\Users\antoko\AppData\Local\Temp\ASTE9187772.tmp" line 9.21 : Redeclaration of variable "$interactive" shadows previous declaration at line 7. Previous value will be overwritten by explicit initializer.
Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/scripts/others/mayaBatchRenderProcedure.mel line 553: RuntimeError: file <string> line 2: Apply layer rlReflections failed: The collection 'N' does not have a selector
Exception: file C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\Python\lib\site-packages\maya\app\renderSetup\model\collection.py line 638: The collection 'N' does not have a selector

Thanks in advance, Sean

Hi @antokoman

Out of curiosity, if you batch render with a different renderer besides Arnold does this same error occur?

I would need to try, but this is very Arnold specific, not sure if I can override AOVs using maya renderer.

cheers
