linear data type

Will someone please define the linear data type in found in the documentation for mel scripts, expressions and python.

I find numerous references to this data type in the documentation but no definition.

My understanding of linear data type is that it is not angular.  This is why there are always unitConversion nodes created when connecting a rotation value to any attribute that is not angular data.
