How to - Maya plugin licensing mechanism?

Hello, I have written a Maya plugin that I would like to protect with a simple Licensing Mechanism. However I am not terribly familiar with this domain. Hence...

  • It would be great to get some pointers or any other helpful information that would guide me in writing my own implementation.
  • And on a side note... does the Maya C++ API provide any access to the Maya CutId or to the Maya licensing details so that they could be used to piggyback a Maya plugin licensing mechanism?

The Answer would be quite long.

Please send me a pm so I can explain my method.

But to be short, I believe that Maya does not provide such ID. You may use plateform like Gumroad to have such data and verifiy the activation properly.

In another thread Negow suggested an off the shelf product called limelm (https://wyday.com/limelm/)

 

With regard to off the realm of shelf License Managers, does anybody else have any other suggestions or informative feedback? I am trying to get a sense of the LM landscape out there, what works for people and what does not. 

 

Pointers to other threads or forums on this LM topic (off the shelf or/and opensource) would be welcome too.
