This "# error: line 1: runtimeerror: file <string> line 2: maya command error" appears before rendering. What to do?

Hi!

 

This error tends to appear when maya can't locate where it is supposed to render to or it has invalid characters in the name it is supposed to give the file. Go to your rendersettings and set the filepath for your render. Give it a unique name and make sure the name uses the english alphabet only and doesn't contain any of the following symbols: (){}[]/&%#\|'`^=$£".,$

I recently switched to Maya 2023 and am now getting this error when trying to render in the render view.  My project settings are set to default and I have not changed the file paths or project paths.  Here is the error in full...

The name of the file is set to (not set, using scene name) and I had initially set it to render to .png.  However, it would spit this error, so I restarted the scene, made sure the render settings were at default (which sets it back to a .exr output) then tried to render again.  This time it crashed and spit this crash report:

I will include this in my crash log report as well.  Here's a screen grab of the render settings...
1st image are the scene defaults that caused the full crash...2nd image is the actual crash dialogue...3rd image is my initial settings...not that the "Filename" is set to <Camera>/SSC_02 (that's the filename) [crash recover stuff] on the default, and the original still has the <Camera>/  if it's trying to write this as the literal file name then is that what's causing the issue?  I don't know why it's appending the <Camera>/ to my filename and I'm uncertain if that is even relevant.

Try turning off "Abort On Error" under Error Handling in the Render Settings>Diagnostics Tab

For some reason I only get this error when I try CPU render (in that particular scene). It still renders the GPU.
