Unexpected behaviour when trying to delete all polygons of an object

Hi,

Create a cube in Maya 2015, or 2016, go into component mode and delete all polygons.

Result is there is always 1 polygon left.

If you divide this left over polygon into smaller pieces and try to delete all these pieces,

there will still be a (smaller polygon) left. You can repeat this ad infinitum (if you're really bored).

Is this normal behaviour?

I never ever seen this in 3dsmax and I also don't seem to remember that in any older versions of Maya.

First time I noticed this I thought I created a model with bad geometry, like dubble faces or edges and spend quite a while trying to figure out what I did wrong.

So in that sense it's "unexpected" and dare I say it "unwanted" behaviour.

Can somebody confirm that this is "normal" Maya behaviour.

Regards

This is normal from my understanding. You can't have a polygon object with zero polygons. Why delete all the faces and not just delete the object?

What is interesting is that if you go into edge mode and select everything, you can delete all the polygons...but as Rick pointed out, you probably wouldn't want to...

I don't understand why you want keep a shape node without any Vertex, Edge or Face?

If you select and delete all edge, you can delete everything. But why?
