smooth mesh preview to polygons cant undo

the smooth mesh preview to polygons i cannot undo it as it is to many polygons and i do not know how to undo it ?

preview is just a preview. there is nothing to undo.

1 for no smooth

2 for cage and smooth

3 for smooth

select the geo and press 1

when i press one nothing happens it stays the same?

That means that the mesh was permanently smoothed prior Mesh>Smooth and the history was deleted.

Open an earlier version of the scene before the smooth was applied.

Also make sure you understand how SubD workflow works.

damaggio is correct. if you smoothed it with a polySmooth operation, and then deleted the history, then it's not smoothMeshPreview, but you smoothed the geo.

you can also try using 

mesh --> unsmooth to get back the orig, if you did indeed smooth it. and you don't have a previously saved file with it un-smoothed
