Non-uniform scaling of primitive stretches model UVs

Hello friends

I'm scaling non-uniformly a primitive - cube -  and when I want to UV it's UVs are all stretched.

I had to reinstall Maya and lost my presets for good. I have read the scale maya documentation and tested several settings because this didn't happen before. Axis orientation object or world didn't solve this.

Can you please let me know what setting is incorrect on my scale?

Thank you for your help

Thanks for posting! Looks like this is functioning as expected.

When you scale a model non-uniform (not with all axis at the same time) the UV's will stretch and you will need to re-uv the model.

Hey @faline.custodio.da.silva

Thanks for your post.

That's the problem. I re-uvd after I scaled non-uniformly and the resulting UVs is a shown in my above post.

Here's a video if that helps clarify the workflow.

If what I am seeing always happened, all models would have stretched UVs. Is it that maya in my case is not UVing as it should when I apply planar?

Thank you, Sergio

Hi!

IF you map from the side, then this is the correct result.

You may try Automatic mapping instead, or use the planar mapping from top and not from the side (rotate Manipulator).

Hi @Anonymous

@mspeer  has the right idea. Automatic mapping this model and then using Unfold should show better results.

In general non uniform scaling is always going to affect UVs and you really dont want to do anything to the model after UV mapping as it will usually lead to you having to UV map again.

Thanks a lot for your help and @mspeer  and apologies for not getting back earlier but was travelling. Not sure what did it, I re-did what I had done before but it works now. Have a good weekend !
