Maya Create Text; cannot adjust what text is written nor the font

Hi, I am running Maya 2017 (latest version).

I have an odd problem when using the create -> Type tool

The text is created, the menu with options to adjust the text for font, text manipulator etc. opens fine.

However if I type something different from the standard '3D Type' nothing  seems to happen; I see it change in the textbox, I see the font style changing but the object in the viewport still says '3D Type'

If I adjust Font size (or any of the options such as Tracking etc.) then the viewport text becomes bigger, it just never changes from '3D Type'

Restarted maya several times with clean scenes, it seems a hit or miss.

I do get this error sometimes;

# Error: line 2: RuntimeError: file C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2017\Python\lib\site-packages\maya\app\type\AEtypeTemplate.py line 1266: Object 'hyperShadePanel1dockStation|propertyPanelForm|ppRoot|ppDoSelection|ppSelected|ppControls|typeFormLayout|scrollLayout7|columnLayout100|columnLayout101|columnLayout103|rich_text_Edit' not found.

What do I do to fix this?

Hi @WaffleToasters

A quick test you can do is open the Plugin Manager and unload then reload the 3dType Tool plugin.

If that doesn't work you can try deleting your settings/preferences and then re enable the plugin.

Please let me know if anything changes!

I will give it a proper check tomorrow. This morning in clean scenes it wasn't giving me any issues but I remember one certain scene that was giving me problems which then also happened in clean scenes.

I did previously remove my preferences earlier that week because for some reason Maya would crash during saves. Perhaps that could've been a cause.

I'll let you know tomorrow how it went but I'll surely remember that you can turn off/on the plugin for the tool, that slipped my mind at the time.

I did some testing today indeed but I couldn't replicate the problem anymore which is good. I suspect it happened because I had deleted my preferences due to solve a bug which sometimes occurs when saving and exporting in maya and I had not used the 3D type tool again afterward till the day the problem started happening. Strange problem which solved itself thank goodness. Thanks for all the replies.
