Maya 2017 Extrude Tool Missing Manipulator/Window

Anonymous

I'm seeing some unexpected behavior with the extrude tool in Maya 2017. When I select the face of a cylinder that still has the polyCylinder node as an input, I get the expected manipulator and floating dialogue window with extrusion settings. So far, so good.

If I delete the history of the cylinder, though, I no longer get a manipulator or dialogue window though:

I'm not seeing this problem in Maya 2016. Is this a known problem with 2017, or is there a workaround?

Hi!

Here it works with Maya 2017 (without SP1)!

1. Create -> Polygon Primitives -> Cylinder

2. Edit -> Delete by Type -> History

3. Select a face of the cylinder

4. CTRL + E (Extrude)

The option window shows up.

Previous answer really not helpful at all.

I have a similar issue, I can't see the floating dialogue box at all anymore. Is there an option to turn it on, or had a pref file been corrupted, if so any idea which one.

If the floating box and manipulator are not showing up anymore, it's possible that history is not enabled. You can toggle it on via the little clock icon as shown in the attached. Note: If you don't see the icon, click on those vertical hide/reveal bars that are amongst the icons.

Hi, thanks for reply, toggling that didn't make a difference.

I deleted the userPrefs.mel and restarted and it came back...bit annoying tbh 🙂

When extruding only one direction of the manipulator and the scaling tool are visible, rather than each of the three axes, do you know how i can fix this?

(Construction history is on)

disable symmetry if you want the scale handles to show up as well!

Turn off symmetry in the modeling toolkit panel.

In symmetry mode the manip is restricted because modifying the other axes can lead to a non-symmetrical result.

Hi,

On the right side of the main window there are a couple of vertical tabs that let you switch the panel on the right side of the screen between the channel box, modeling toolkit etc.

Check to see if Maya has magically Toggled the "In-view Editor" off.

Display -> Heads Up Display -> In-View Editors
