How do I cleanly model a connection between two imported .obj meshes?

Hi,

I'm relatively new to Maya modelling, at least in terms of attempting to model with any accuracy. I have imported two .obj extrusions from rhino which are the formal constraints of my final model. I wish to model a polygon mesh between these two objects (attached screenshot). I have attempted to redraw edges into the imports using multi-cut and connect but for the most part they fail to attach. I'm wondering if perhaps it is best to detach the faces and use those as my starting points? Basically I want to start learning the correct method rather than fudge things from the beginning. I appreciate any response.

Hi,

If you need to connect these meshes, Just delete the cap polygons just keep the outside borders like in the videos then apply and bridge connections.

Hi, thanks for the video.

When i try to do this it says that it requires equal number of border edges to be selected for source and target selection. Is there any way to rebuild the edges to have a certain number or would this be a manual count and delete exercise?

Is there any chance to rebuild the parametric surfaces in Rhino so you can have the same amont of subdivisions? That would be simpler.

You can rebuild surfaces in Maya but for NurbsSurfaces, what you imported is a polygonal geo (mesh). I'm not sure that you can find a reliable way to decimate a polygon mesh. Since you have not that much polys, I would manually collapse edges to have the same amount of poly then redo the bridge step like in the video.

There is no backface culling for imageplane (never seen such thing at least).

As a workaround, you can either change its opacity (alpha gain) so you can look though it.

or specify which camera can see it "looking throught camera".

thanks man. I collapsed a few edges manually and then bridged as you said. all good!

Awesome dude!
Please do not pay attention to the post just above, it's a bug
