Hard topology after centering pivot, deleting history by type and freezing transformations.

Why does this happen & how to fix it? Please don't suggest to redo the entire model as it took me a long time to get the shapes right & I have already done UVs for the entire model.

Those hard edges are there also in the first screenshot. Take a closer look why they appear.

And make them smooth if needed. Select the edges --> shift + RMB --> soft edges

This happens quite often on my old models, why?
Are models created on older versions of Maya more prone to this problem?

Now that you know about normals this will never happen again and you can fix any old models if they were saved

incorrectly.
