beginners smoothing problem

Not applicable

how do i stop my shape, which ive just punched holes in, from getting all crazy when i smooth?  its supposed to be a wall socket.   I want the shapes outer edges to round off quite a bit, but i want the holes i've punched to stay in tact.  see pictures below.  Thanks!Screen Shot 2015-08-26 at 1.39.40 PM.png

You have to learn more about edge loops to keep the hard shape of geometry where you want and also good modeling topology, when you do a boolean it should not be smoothed afterwards unless you totaly cleaned up the geometry...you could however do your socket with more polygons just as it supposed to be ...then do a boolean for the holes and leave as is...it will still  render with bad geometry created after the boolean.
