Texture doesn't apply as I want to...

Hello guys.

I have this Model and its UV Map

I want to apply this simple texture all around the Model:

Black-Grunge-Texture-4-2000.jpg

And also, I want to add a little image in the center of the model (on the cylindrical part).

I exported that UVShot into Photoshop and the Texture is now:

But when I import the texture into Maya and apply it onto the Model, it's not like I expected it to be...

Umh... what is happening? What's wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Hi gedamial, thanks for the nice step by step images, although the last one is so small I can barely see, please post a larger one...it seems that everything is fine to me.

On a side note, you have wasted a lot of texture resolution , you can do the UV layout a bit better next time.

Also you should clean the bottom of the can , there's a large Ngon there, it won't give an issue when rendering but it is a good practice to keep geo all quads...I look fwd for the new image.

Hi, thanks for the answer.

Here is the last image with a better resolution:

In a lot of cases is fine to do this ...make the area that is more important , specially with text, make it bigger in the UV space so you get more resolution, the bottom of the can is the least important and the top of the can try to match the pixel resolution or make as big as you can to match the resolution of the side of the can.

OH now I see, yes you need to unwrap the top part.

Select the uvs on that little part and Unfold legacy Horizontal...after that you can do it again with a Vertical but watch the shape closely because sometimes it will deform too much so you might need to undo and just use once Horizontal...it depends on the model but is good to know.

I have never loved Texturing, it's so complicated...

However, I Unfolded Horizontally and the mesh get deformed:

Once you unwrap you have to take back into photoshop and adjust texture again
