Problems with interactive split tool

Don't know if this is a bug or what... I use this tool to add another line on the arm, the line above is added by the line I am selecting now can't be added.  There are no extra vertices on any of the edges. Can someone tell me why?

Try some of these:

delete history or

Normals --> Conform or

Mesh --> Cleanup (with option: Remove Geometry: Checkmark Normals and Geometry)

Good Luck!

I would be curious to hear about other users' experience with the Interactive Split tool.  i find it to be inconsistent, and your issue doesn't surprise me.  In my experience, the inconsistency seems to be related to graphics card or system configuration.  I'm not a new user, and I am very careful to use clean geometry consistently, and yet I find that this tool requires a workaround very, very frequently.

Maybe someone from Autodesk can shed some light on this?

My workaround is to not use it.  I use the legacy SplitPolygonTool, which can be accessed via a MEL command ("SplitPolygonTool") or via the HotBox.  I have copied the MEL command to a custom shelf.

It works, thank you very much! Can you maybe explain a bit the reason of it? It helps me understand why. Thanks!

It was normal-conform that solved the problem.

You can display the normals of an selected surface: Display-->Polygons-->Face Normals. If your Model is good, all Normals facing outwards. (Its important for Rendering). Sometimes during the modelling-process a normal can face in the wrong direction ...  if you créeate an edgeloop, it braks at such "places" - think about this like: what will be happens, if a train comes to a rail, that is flipped ... 😉
