Option window does not appear.

Hello i am new to Maya and i am serious about learning this. I am just getting started with the tutorial in the Maya's official page. I am having problem following the instructions properly. There suppose to be a an options that should appear when i want to create something. For example: If i want to create a polygonal primitives cylinder, according to the tutorial an option window should appear where i can change the attributes, but it does not appear for me. I have to change the attributes from the channel box. I have already unchecked the Interactive Creation option as it says. I tried resetting MAYA, but no luck. Any idea?

did you click on the optionbox for that tool?
the create primitives options pop up in the toolsettings window. if you have your attribute editor on the same screen side active it will overlap that.

He means that you should choose the little square on the menu for, say Create -> Polygon Primtives -> Sphere. If you just choose the menu by itself, you get whatever options you last used. If you choose the box to the right of the name, that is when you get the options opened beforehand.

YES. I have the EXACT same problem and it is getting frustrating. I have no idea why my options box will not appear when you click on the square next to the command. (IE: clicking the box next to Loft, nothing will appear. Even though if you click on Loft itself, it will loft.)

possible that option windows think they should be on second/third monitor?

perhaps try editing you windowPrefs.mel file in your prefs folder to reset their positions.

Hello there!! I had the same problem. I found out that the option box actually appears at a different monitor screen. You would have to connect a monitor screen to your current computer and drag the option box back to your original monitor screen. That was what i did and it worked!

Hope this helps!^^

ok this question comes up too often and there are too much of strange answers like editing mel scripts or attaching a second screen which you might dont have. so once again if the problem is really that the window was on a second screen or something like that just go to your prefs and uncheck "remember size and positon" - restart maya - done.

I have this issue ALL THE TIME - I work on a laptop and when I'm in my office, I connect a second monitor to it.

I'm on a machine running Windows 7, and use the window-lock feature native to the OS.  When I open the options box (or any other window) and it doesn't appear, I know it's "showing" on a nonexistent second monitor.   Here's the really easy fix, if you're in Windows 7 or 8:

Open the window that doesn't show

Press [windows Key] + Left Arrow

The offending window will appear and lock to the left side of your screen.  From there you can resize it however you like.

###SOLVED###

Delete User Prefs file and Windows prefs file

Go to windows explorer. then C:\Users\jdesouza\Documents\maya\2017\prefs then go ahead and delete userPrefs and windowsPrefs. Solved all option box issues for me.

For anyone having this problem I found an easy solution, even if the first post is from years ago this can be useful nowadays.

Change your screen resolution to another one and change it back. Maya thinks that you have another monitor or something like this so it opens the window but you can't see it or move it to your screen.

This should be marked as the solution. Worked like a charm and didn't affect my actual custom interface, only resized the windows.

Had the same problem.

I solved it by turning on the "Construction History"

Glad that worked for you - but it's not so much a "fix" as a workaround.  Changing tool options has nothing to do with construction history.

For me, it was time to upgrade anyway - so I uninstalled 2019 and installed 2019.2 and that worked. Also not really a fix.

This is the best answer. Thank you... For some reason Autodesk wanted me to do a clean uninstall and I didn't have the time, this worked magnificently, thank you!
