Move brush + live Object = Broken Mesh

I'm trying to simply use the Grab brush with the live object turned ON, and at least in Maya 2024 and Maya 2025 seems to be broken.  I've used this before when this feature was released several years ago and it worked great.   I don't want to use the live object with quad draw, just to be clear.

Can someone test this and let me know if it works on your end?

Steps:

- Create a torus, subdivide the torus, and do some soft vertex move to deform the geo a bit.

- Create a second torus.

- Delete history on both geo

- grab the first torus and set as a live object

- now select the second torus and then press move brush sculpting tool

- Try to move the vertices with the brush

Expected Result:

 - Seeing the vertices slide across the surface of the live object

Bug:

- Crackling vertices flying over to the center of the grid randomly

I can confirm this is a bug. I just installed Maya 2023 and it works as expected in the 2023 version.

Hey there - Autodesk is aware of this. The bug ticket # is MAYA-133205.

Is there any place where we can see the bugs Autodesk Maya team have been working on?  By the way, is the forum the best way to present bugs to the team or is there some better channel to communicate with the devs?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Daniel,

Usually when Autodesk releases Maya, there's a Release Notes section. In there, there is a list of bugs that are fixed for that version. But nothing in advance of the release, if that's what you mean.

Yes! For bugs or improvements, if you open Maya and go to the Help > Feedback > Report a Problem, there is a form you can fill out. This is a much better way of getting something looked at by Autodesk because it goes directly to Support and/or Quality Assurance teams.

Hello Catherine,
It would be great to have access to the list of known maya bugs somewhere so that we can refer before creating new one.

Btw, for the specific MAYA-133205, do you know if the bug is currently being addressed?

Thanks

Maya 2027 still has the same issue.
Must be a very tricky bug for Autodesk to fix.
