How to stretch out an object?

Hello Autodesk friends,

As you can view in the attached image, I have selected the portion I would like to vertically widen/stretch-out further from its attached base; adding 5 extra cm to it's length.

May you please explain how to do so?

Thank you,

- HBerrada

Hi @Anonymous Smiley Happy

To make sure I understand this right, you want to extend the length by about 5 cm?

If that's the case you can simply Hold down Right Click->Vertices then select the vertices and move them up/down 5cm.

Of course you would also need to either move the small cylinder below it down 5cm as well.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Hello Sean,

Thank you for your reply.

"If that's the case you can simply Hold down Right Click->Vertices then select the vertices and move them up/down 5cm."

When I hold down Right Click on the mouse, "Vertices" is nowhere to be found.

After using FIND MENU and typing up Vertices, I get the options of using Vertices through Display->Polygons or through Convert Selection->To Vertices

But none let me stretch out the selected item to increase its vertical length another 5 cm.

All this is under MODELING "set"

Thank you for you time Sean!

Hi @Anonymous

You need to hold down right click when your mouse is over an object so then it should display the radial menu with the vertices option!

Thank you for replying Sean,

However, your answer is not helpful in resolving my question.

Even though I right click the mouse on the object to modify, I get the same screen as you posted, but then what?

Which of them many options should I select to slightly pull for a longer length?

Have a good day,

Hi @Anonymous

You would select 'Vertex' and then select the vertices and manually move them.

I also went ahead and made a screencast for you that should help!

Hello Sean,

Good looks for creating another video to explain the process.

I’m sorry that I might not have been clear in explaining what I’m trying to do.

Image 1: Talking about the selected green part of the object, I would like to keep it stuck to the object, but reach until the lower object below it (5 cm longer than it’s current state).  To widen the green object starting from the base to the lower circular piece.

Image 2: Instead of staying hanging in the air, it would be the link connecting the whole object to the lower piece under it.

I hope I made myself clearer.

Thank you very much Sean!!

Hi @Anonymous

Do you mean something like this?

image_01.png

If so, then the steps I provided are all you would need to do. Select the vertices and move them to the desired location.

Let me know if this is what you are trying to do or if I'm still misunderstanding what you are trying to accomplish.
