How to merge lots of meshes into one and fix animation

Hello

I have two questions and I hope you understand me 🙂

As an indie game developer, I create some simple models my myself, but Maya is sometimes a little bit frustrating for me. I tried to create a clean hierarchy but I don't understand how I can do it.

I created this "pull chain" and my intention is to combine and merge the complete mesh to a single one. Like "merge all layers into one" in Photoshop. I can't figured it out and deleting the groups will delete parts of the model.

My second question is: I created a "pull" animation and it's working well in Maya. In Unity, the animation is playing, but the chain is not moving. I already selected "Export Animation" and "Bake Animation" in export window. I tried .fbx and .ma files.

In short: I just wish to export the complete mesh as a complete object with working animation.

Hope somebody can help me.

Thank you 🙂

The cleanest way is probably to select the mesh and do a Cache > Alembic Cache > Export selection to Alembic.  Then you can either import the alembic cache into a new scene and send that to Unity, or even just import the cache file itself directly into Unity.

Thank you! It's working well. Now, I have a clean model and I can play the animation in Maya.

But if I export it to Unity, the model have "No animation data available in this model". If I import the .fbx to a new Maya scene, the animation is also lost.

Why is Maya ignoring the animation while export? Sure, I checked the"export animation" and "bake animation" toggle.

I'm not the most familiar with Unity unfortunately, but it seems they can import the alembic cache directly (animation and all).
