do I have to buy maya to export an MB file to STL?

So recently I got a model I was hoping to print, but ultimately can't due to it being an MB file. I read on here that you have to export the file through maya in order to convert it to stl or obj, and I really don't want to pay $129 just to export one file. Is there a way around this? help.

Hi!

Only Maya can open Maya (.mb) files, so there is no other option than to use Maya.

(You can of course place an order and let someone else with Maya do the conversion for you, but then you have to give the date to someone else and i doubt it's much cheaper. If you do it on your own you keep control on your data and you can test several settings or even make corrections and export also in other formats, which may be helpful when you want to edit the data in an other application.)
