Hi, I'm a beginner in 3d modeling and I've been having fun with Maya. I have a couple of questions and I apologize if my questions are easily solved by first google search results or even the tutorial.

 

Question#1

I'm wondering if I messed up my camera for my front view, it appears to stretch out the face I made I guess in a flattened way. It confuses me because it looks different than my perspective view and I don't know what's accurate. If it's supposed to be like that, I suppose I can just leave the bottom left panel in perspective view as well to not confuse me.

 

Question#2

Is there an easy/effective way to keep/make the polygon very blocky instead of automatically smoothed? I've been removing faces to on the polygon and replacing the faces with bridges and fill holes to create this current aesthetic.

Hi,

 

Yes, the front, top and side views will look different than the perspective views because they are orthographic views.

 

In an orthographic view parallel edges always remain parallel and objects farther away from the camera don't appear smaller. This is useful for non-organic modeling but looks unrealistic since real cameras don't typically behave that way.

 

The closest you can get in the real world is to use an large focal length. Look at the images in this article and you can see how the model's face shape changes with the focal length of the camera.

For the flat shading effect you can achieve this by using Modeling > Mesh Display > Normals > Set to Face. (so no need to use Bridge)
