FBX Export selected error

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding exporting FBX, this issue is driving me nuts and I couldn't find other forum topics about. I can't imagine I am the only one coming across this issue. Whenever I try to export my meshes using "Export Selected" I get the error:

"Nothing is currently selected."

In both my outliner and viewport it is very clear that I have my meshes that I want to export selected. I was able to use this function for 2 months in this project but all of a sudden I am not able to export anymore. A fresh install of Maya 2016 didn't resolve it.

Info about the project:

I have one project file where I model and UV map my assets for a Unreal Engine environment. The file contains all my scene elements such as modular and unique props.

Does anybody have experience with this issue or know how to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

Best Regards,

Thomas

Anybody? It has been posted over a week ago. Even after upgrading to Maya 2016 it is giving problems, most of the times it works but after about an hour of work it starts to fail exporting selected assets. Would like to hear suggestions.

Hey there,
I just ran into the same issue, if you delete Maya's pref folder in documents and restart Maya it should fix the problem.

Go to your Documents>maya
Delete your pref folder
Open Maya.
Your preferences will be reset and you might have to set up other bits again, but it will fix your problem with exporting FBX.

I hope this helps!

This is such a stupid error. I finally figured out what was causing it.
Make sure you are using the selection tool or the move tool when you are selecting the mesh to export.
If like me, you were tweaking the UVs, then try to export, you are infact still using the move UV shell tool.

So make sure you click on the poly selection tool on the left tool bar and select the mesh to export.

That sounds as something reasonable, I haven't experienced the issue anymore in a long time but will keep your suggestion in mind when it happens. I'll accept it as a solution for now and see if it works once it happens again 😉

It's been over a year but can confirm in most cases webbyeasy's response is the solution to the issue mentioned in this thread!
