face issue

I've got an issue with a face on a horse im modeling.  1 of the faces appears to have multiple faces within it but they dont seem to be selectable or have vertices of their own.  I tried to delete the main(real) face but when i try to fill hole the issue repeats itself to a nearby face.

check the geometry in that area , you might have some unmerged vertices or floating ones.

ok i noticed a trigon was green and somehow deleting that removed the issue with the face but when i try to delete the trigon it reappears.  I've been checking for vertices but the trigon seems to be a more significant factor in its appearance?

I thought the green might indicate a normal (reverse) issue so i tried reversing it and then the visual manifestation appears...?

there is something still unmerged there, post a poly wireframe not subd....good thing u checked the normals too.

worst case delete 4 faces around and create fresh new ones to fill hole.

not sure what you meant by poly?  i brought it from smooth view to '1'

Yeah that's waht I meant...now you can try to use the Fill hole option...but it might fail because is a triangle...in that case extrude an edge and then hold "V" grabbing one vertice and snapping to the other , do that for all vertices and then select the 3 vertices around the triangle and do a small merge vertices value, check you Heads up display Display>heads up display>polycount...make sure there indeed only 3 vertices around the triangle...u can aslo use the modeling toolkit>Target Weld tool.

you can do this way too...so it's all quads.
