Dublicating Instances Problems

Here's my problem. When I try to dublicate special an object to make it an instance and reverse it by -1 on the x axis for some reason it turns black. What's happened is that the faces have turned inside out and when I try to remedy this by going to Modify - Freeze Transformations it unfortunately reverses the faces on the other half which isn't fixing the problem. I have attached some screenshots to better explain the problem.

Thanks in advance!

you are able to freeze transformations on an instanced object Smiley Surprised ?

anyway the reason for the black appearance is not really new. if you do a negative scale the normals of that object remain flipped until you freeze transformations. the new thing with 2015 is this great new default setting in the viewport - lighting menu where "two sided lighting" has been disabled.twoSidedLighting.jpg

i guess it´s for better performance, but i dont know...for me it´s just annoying!
