Border vertices are not deforming properly with proximity wrap

Hi, I have two models that are being deformed with a proximity wrap.

I want to get a smooth result so I set smooth influences to 6. That works fine for the internal vertices, but at the borders of the mesh the verts they dont seem to smooth correctly. This creates a gap between two adjoining meshes which isn't there in either the undeformed mesh or the deformed mesh with smooth influences set to 0.

Is there any way for me to solve this?

Maybe create a merged version of your separate meshes.  Proximity wrap that.  There should be no seams.  Then use the merged mesh to drive your separate meshes.  Just a thought.
