Smooth mesh preview problem after .obj import

I have a .obj file that I've imported, and I'm having trouble getting it to smooth properly with the smooth mesh preview. When I do, it doesn't smooth like it normally does (it's giving quite a few hard edges), and there are gaps in some of the faces, even though those vertices are merged. Usually when I import and .obj, I select the entire mesh, hit merge, and it smooths properly. That doesn't seem to work here. Anyone know why these gaps show up, and/or the smooth preview isn't working like it normally does?

Any help is appreciated!

Actually, I figured it out! My Merge option wasn't set low enough! Set it to .001, and that did the trick. Can't seem to figure out how to delete this post 🙂
