I am a biologist who studies freshwater mussels. I have 3D scans of mussel shells imported into Maya and want to add a jpg photo as texture on top of the scan but can't seem to make it work. I tried adding it as a new material but it would not render. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's a mighty big topic to cover here. May I suggest a google for "Maya Texture" which will bring up hundreds of videos and watch a few and you will find one that will work with your way of learning and you can copy the steps?

Usually scan software generates automatically the textures.
