Viewport 3.0 - Real Time Render

Viewport 3.0 - Real Time Render

Maya's viewport has been one of the best viewports out there, but now  there are few programs have a better viewport than maya's, that can give you real time render. This would be so usefull for look development and even to skip rendering... We see now the new Blender Viewport that has realtime graphics, or awesome viewports like Marmoset or Substance Painter. We see some effects in them like glows and real time volumetrics lights! Please maya don't stay behind...

We can't register as registration is closed. Can you provide the title of the video, maybe we can find it on the NVidia on-demand website

Surprised the devs are not marking this as in progress since they've been doing public demos already.

If Maya at least had matcaps like Blender does that would already be a start, Maya's viewport is so outdated, it's just sad looking!!!

@henriquedw you can easily have matcap in maya viewport

@abercaine Right I'm sure I can, but I wish there were native options. My point is the Maya's viewport is archaic and could use some updating, like many other things in Maya.

@henriquedw Couldn't agree more. PBR is one thing - having a real time lighting set up that doesn't break at scale is another. Viewport 2.0 is out of date and absolutely doesn't support what I need from it. Nothing has made me consider switching to Blender faster than the viewport. Even 3DSMax has a better viewport and that's embarrassing.

@henriquedw man it's just two nodes, and could be a 1 click solution with a tiny script.
Also not sure why you still complaining, it's already been announced (and they showed a working version) that we will get a new real-time raytraced viewport that will work with USD etc

not sure how many of you are familiar with it, but I have also created a real-time rendering tool for Maya called X-Ray, its quality is far better than Evee or Unreal as you can actually use Arnold/Redshift/VRay for lighting.

Sadly nobody covers it that much, and I'm mostly busy with its production and don't have time to spread the word about it everywhere, so please take a look, and maybe suggest it to others. here are some videos from it, you can find more about it on my youtube channel.

This is from the last update which I'm currently working on, it has an automatic shader converter.

This is so cool. Very impressive work morteza.cg. Does it handle the charge well when you start to have lot of geometry and textures ? can it be use for complex level design ? or do you see it more like a lookdev tool that help to fasten the viewport feedback when doing lookdev on single assets ? How do you plan to license it ? Permanent + maintenance or yearly / monthly subscription ?

Cheers

Watch this OpenGL with a true real-time solution!

https://80.lv/articles/stratusgfx-open-source-real-time-3d-rendering-engine/

Comparison: „X-Ray 3“ needs complicated baking, it is NOT a true real-time solution, and a baking process takes again time.

We need a real-time while building your scene, not for finished scenes.

It was in 2025 and there is still no viewport 3, viewport 2 was released 15 years ago. I really hope that there is just a little bit left
