Speed up and stabilize the Wrap deformer

"The wrap deformer is currently not as useful as it could be. Making it fast enough to be able to have deformers such as blendShapes before the wrap in the input hierarchy without getting extreme slow wrap calculations would greatly improve it's usability."

I agree. A better wrap deformer would be useful.

Pretty much every company that I have worked at have their own custom proprietary wrap deformer,

but for smaller companies and freelance work its sometimes not possible to allocate the resources or have the

know how to do that.

I would be happy with having something like cvWrap from Chad Vernon natively in Maya.

A wrap deformer that is fast, stable and paintable.

An added plus would be to be able to have an option to bind based on UVs, rather than closest point on mesh only.

I was forced to use the wrap deformer for a complex shot recently and it was VERY slow and artifact ridden.  I was shocked when I used C4Ds wrap deformer as it is a lot better (at least when I used it).

Agreed with the wrap deformer-- having paintable attrs would be a plus.  Blendshapes and wrap deformers are used very often in the medical animation field.

Really struggling right now with this wrap deformer in Maya 2020 and 2022. Takes a half hour to process and when done, it doesn't work. If I get my polys down to 4k it works fine (and quickly), but higher than that and it goes haywire.

 

UPDATE: Just got one working with 37k verts and I jumped through the roof. Would like to have it working at slightly higher res, say 66k. But after taking forever to do the calculations, the wrap doesn't move at all with the reference object.
