"Save Scene As..." should open to the folder where the file is currently located

Right now "Save Scene As..." opens to the last folder that you were in for whatever reason. So if you import a model into a lighting scene, then go to "Save Scene As..." it opens the model's folder instead of the lighting scene's folder. This is super annoying. When working with several artists and several assets simultaneously on different jobs, files are accidentally getting saved all over the place, and when people look to find the latest version, it may or may not be located where it's supposed to be.

I think it was fixed. It's in the list of bugs addressed in the release notes.

Yes, I tested it and it seems to be fixed. Would be good for others to test it also.

If that is true is a huge relief and maybe I'm ready for 2019 then.

And the browser being able to see HDR thumbnails.

Maybe interesting for you to have a look at this, because it's a very related topic:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-ideas/quot-export-selection-quot-should-take-object-node-name-am...

I guess the reason for the lack of such "features" is, that Autodesk was always used to deal with companies, that do anway their own pipeline programming. But market and demands have changed...

As of 2020, having downloaded the latest version of Maya 2020, I can confidently say that this is NOT fixed. Why does EVERY OTHER SOFTWARE save to the correct file location?!

I have the issue in Maya 2019.2, I will vote 2 to bump it since it`s one of those small irritants that could be gracefully fixed.
Maya has a Save As dialog box the idea would be to be consistent with the rest of the world

- If the file exists and has a path Save As could save side by side
- If the scene is <untitled> Save As could go in the current scenes\ folder if the the project is set

- If the project is not set the OS could decide (like use the last opened folder?) (optional)

Haven't been working in Maya for quite a while, and just got caught out by this unbelievable problem again. Clearly if it was fixed in previous versions, it's broken again now. It's really quite pathetic that Autodesk won't/can't respond to this, which for about four years now has been BREAKING MAYA'S OWN PROJECT PARADIGM. It's clear that plenty of people absolutely hate this, and there are zero comments here in support of this "feature".

Just coming here to bump this one because I *just* got bit by this again today in the year 2024.  We've already built our own file dialogs for other parts of our maya workflow.  I've been reluctant to do so for the main application file dialog but I'm pretty close to paying one of my developers to implement a core feature of Maya.
