Duplicate Reference with Edits

Duplicate Reference with Edits

(Copied from original User Voice forum)

"It would be great to be able to duplicate a reference with existing reference edits.

Currently I need to duplicate the reference then export the reference edits to an offline file, then import those edits back onto the duplicate. Could be a check box somewhere."

not one button solution but give a try:

(all actions are made in outliner, so you don't even need viewport u can pause it [mel]:

ogs -p;

) :

1. (select all items of source reference) [rmb] on any reference member > Reference > select members

2. (export their edits to file) [rmb] over same or any selected item > Reference > export to offline file

> save file dialog will shown, save anywhere, file will be saved with extension .editMA, top namespace (e.g wat:dat:object) will be replaced with placeholder <root> (<root>:dat:object) for substitution purposes when appying it

3. (duplicate source reference) [rmb] over any ref. member > Reference > duplicate

4. (select any item of duplicated reference) [rmb] > Reference > assign offline edits

5. (options in dialog window) navigate on saved edits in options choose:

 - apply via: reference or import

 - namespace options: select target namespace in tree view, choose radio switch starting with "merge ..."

 - hit ok button (Assign offline file)

6. (optional) unpause viewport [mel]:

ogs -p;

some edits may not assign(some attribute values (setAttrs) may not export)... I dkn why it happens
