Xgen lighting problem

Hi all, I am new to Maya Xgen function, I learnt from online tutorial, but still couldn't fix my problem.

I created a rigged model and apply xgen on it, then I reference the rigged xgen model to the animation scene. However when I apply the lighting to the animation scene and render with mental ray, the xgen model becomes totally different. All I want should be similar as the preview in workspace. I use maya 2016 sp6, i applied xgen_hair_physical as geoshader, and i used same map in Primitive Color, tip color and root color since I want to draw the pattern on model. Could you please help me to light it correctly?
Moreover, I have seen in the tutorial about groom bake, should I apply it before rendering the whole animation scene?

Thanks a lot!

Can you post a screenshot of the shading network for the hair shader? Also, have you set up custom color expressions for root_color and tip_color?

I followed the tutorial, but i change a bit on tip color since I want the tip and root color are same. However, there are still some problem when i render it with lighting:

1. it doesn't show the white color as the ptex map, i tried to adjust the light setup and the shader setup, but it doen't help;

2. it is too secular , but seems no effect when i adjust the shader setup.

I'd try different shaders. mib_illum_hair is not as good as some other shaders available. As for the specular, that's just the shader settings, you have to make adjustments to primary weight and roughness.
