Hi All,
Another school year is upon us, and with it, more Maya bugs. One in particular that is curious has to do with the XGen Interactive Groom Editor not displaying after you switch tabs to something else. Upon switching back to the Groom Editor tab, we get an error:
# Error: line 1: TypeError: file C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\plug-ins\xgen\scripts\xgenm\ui\xgIgSplineEditor.py line 412: long() argument must be a string or a number, not 'NoneType' #
and the Groom Editor window is completely blank. This bug requires us to restart Maya, but it slows down our processes severely. Does anyone have an idea what causes this?

Hi @Anonymous
It looks like an issue with the plug-in itself.
Have you tried unloading and reloading the Xgen plug-in to see if this still occurs?
Also what version of Maya are you running and is it up to date?

Hello again @sean.heasley,
I hadn't tried to unload and load the plug-in while Maya is open, but it does reappear when I close Maya and reopen it. I did replicate the error to try that method, but unfortunately it didn't work. The Groom Editor is still a blank window.
I am on Maya 2018.4 and running Arnold version 3.1.0. That's the image that is on all of our lab machines as well.
Edit: I get this error when I try to unload the plug-in
Hi @Anonymous
I believe that error is happening because you have Xgen open while trying to disable the plug-in.
I'd recommend opening Maya to a blank empty scene and then try to unload and reload the plug-in. From there you can then try to open the original scene and see if anything changes.
If that doesn't work, you can try deleting your settings/preferences and/or you may want to perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya.
Please let me know if anything changes!

Hi @sean.heasley,
I did try that yesterday, realizing that it wouldn't work with XGen in the scene. I created a new scene without anything it, replicated the error and tried unloading and loading the plugin. The Groom Editor was still blank after taking those steps.
Hi @Anonymous
Hmm ok. In that case I'd recommend you perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya and then try deleting your settings/preferences.
Let me know how that goes!

Thanks @sean.heasley. I deleted my entire prefs folder and restarted the PC and so far I haven't had that issue again. Luckily, I didn't have to uninstall and reinstall Maya. I appreciate your help.
Hi @Anonymous
No problem! Please let me know if it occurs again or if any other issues occur!

It's back. I've tried deleting my entire prefs folder and it comes back immediately. I haven't done an uninstall / reinstall yet because our programs are managed as part of academic licensing.
The issue happens most when you switch workspaces away from the XGen IGS workspace and then back.
