What means "2017ff05"?

When I save a .ma file with MAYA 2017 Update 5, at the first line I see like below,

//Maya ASCII 2017ff05 scene
...

But, if I save with MAYA 2018 Update 3, it changed as

//Maya ASCII 2018ff08 scene
...

I can notice easily what the initial 4 letters mean. It is major version. 😉

But, how can I convert latter 4 letters?

Hi @icapathos

I believe this is a label to identify which versions the scene file has been saved in like you pointed out.

That said, why do you want to change what it says?

2018ff08 is used for file compatibility between different versions, and you shouldn't change it

Hi!

The last 4 letters are an internal sub version numbering, there is not necessarily a direct relationship between this number and the Update version number.

I was just going to let the users know the exact version of Maya ascii file.

For example,  if I have ma file that written in Maya 2018.3 and try to open that in Maya 2017 Update 3, it informs the exact version and abort opening.

If another way to find the written version of a file, I hope to know that.
