Terminal in Maya 2017 OSX missing

I noticed in 2016.5 and 2017 of Maya on OSX that the terminal settings and associated environment files have been missing.  Have there been plans to remove this from the default install, or did it just get forgotten in the last couple of releases?  I was able to create a new one based off the 2016 files, but was curious if there were plans on putting it back in future releases.

Yes, it was removed in 2016.5.

It's listed under Limitations and Notes in the 2016.5 release notes:

MAYA-63217
Maya Terminal.term and MayaENV.sh have been removed on the Mac OS X platform.
Workaround: The maya command can be used to interact with Maya from the shell; for example, as follows:
Maya.app/Contents/bin/maya -prompt

You can run Maya from a terminal just  by running /Applications/Autodesk/maya2017/Maya.app/Contents/MacOS/Maya directly.

Some users drag that to the dock (documents section).

Hey Stephen,

Would you know if command line rendering still supports Mental Ray? I tried command line rendering and always get a message like this:

'Cannot open renderer description file "mrRenderer.xml"'
