how do i get the mac os top menu? (rather than mayas)

hi, Ive just downloaded the demo of 2017 and the top app menu is appearing within maya rather than the macs system - is there a way I can change this?

No...I believe they moved the menus into the main interface window so that the icons will show up next to the menu items. (You know...the toolbar icons that are hard enough to decipher at normal size, let alone shrunk down so they fit in the menus.)  

BTW, you can turn the menu icons off in your Maya preferences. Under the Interface section, there's a "Show Icons in Menus" option.

you're kidding me!!   Thats ridiculous! Hopefully enough people will complain to reinstate it 😕

No...but I have another theory as to why they changed it. When you program across multiple platforms, you want the code a similar as possible between them. It makes it easier to debug.

I suddenly remembered where else I had seen the menus on a 3d program not on the Mac menu bar. Hint: It begins with a "B" and ends with an "r."

BTW, it took me a day to get used to the new format, and although I prefer the easier to read Mac menus, it doesn't really bother me that much.

I'm sure id get used to it. Its just that on my laptops screen the menu titles become even smaller and fiddly to click, and that top white EMPTY menu strip just becomes wasted space 😞

Ahh. Got it. You could always maximize the window...that will give you the program window without the wasted strip.

I agree! Not digging the exclusion of the top menu bar from Maya.
