Stop automatically adding nodes to Hypershade?

Is there a setting or preference that will stop Maya from adding new nodes to the Hypershade every time I create something?

It's a little out of control when you have things like the camera node, physical sun/sky, render settings and shape nodes just piling up in the hypershade. They overlap nodes that I have organized and are just clutter.

Hi @Anonymous

Generally new things are added to the Hypershade when shaders or objects that use new shaders are created.

Is this what you're talking about? If so you can't stop them from appearing but you can easily delete them however that may break the shader on said object.

Could you possibly post a screenshot of your Hypershade so I can get a better idea of what's happening?

Hi!

"Add to Graph on Create"

- In Node Editor it's in options menu.

- In Hypershade it's in marking menu (cause there is no menu for the integrated Node Editor),

just use right-mouse-click inside the integrated Node Editor window.

Can we please promote this all-important Hypershade preference to somewhere that users can find it?

The Marking Menu is there, but it's not the place users will go to set global preferences. That right-click menu is supposed to be for issuing commands.

The Node Editor has a proper setting for this in Preferences. Maybe Hypershade should obey that preference. Or at least flesh out the Hypershade menus. Not the marking menu, the actual menu bar.

It's a huge waste of time for users to have to dig through this stuff just to prevent nodes from popping up in the Hypershade. The Hypershade automatically displays ANYTHING created in the scene, from a user-created polygon mesh to a mysterious script node that creates itself for some unknown purpose.

It's not trivial. If I've got a huge complex graph of shaders, it can cause a huge amount of down time for me to clean up the mess and get back to what I was actually trying to work on.

And the only way I could figure out how to prevent this problematic behavior was to do a Google search, which led me to this forum.

Please promote this preference to somewhere users can find it.

Thanks
