Select objects with Materials doesn't select NURBS Objects

Hi everybody,

I have an issue with the "Select objects with Materials" features in Hypershade.

Basically it does not work with NURBS objects any more. When I try to select all the objects (NURBS) with the same material, it selects nothing.

No problems with polygons.

Has anyone else stumbled across this problem, and maybe fixed it?

Thank you

Mauro

P. S. I am using V-Ray shaders.

Still works fine here, have you checked with Chaos?

Do you mean that ir works with V-Ray shaders on your side?

No, I have not checked with Chaos, yet.

Thank you

I have tried with Arnold materials too. Nothing.

It only works if the materials are attached to meshes not surfaces.

Not sure how comes that it works on your side.

By the way, let's make sure we are comparing apples to apples: I am on Maya 2024.2

Hi!

Here it works as expected.

Tested with Maya 2024.2 on Windows with different materials (Maya materials and Arnold materials).

I recommend to try a reset of the Preferences and to disable any 3rd party / custom plug-ins.

It doesn't work, and it is the exact same thing for the whole team here at work.

Can you capture a video of what you are doing, for me to have a look, please?

I am under the impression that we are doing different things.

Thank you

I have just tested this in Maya 2023.3 and it works flawlessly.

Message 8 of 18

I have attached two videos that I have grabbed, reproducing the issue. One is Maya 2023.3 and the other is Maya 2024.2.

So, I ended up using the customer support and raising a ticket for this issue.

It is clearly a bug with 2024.2

Hi!

Thanks for the videos.

I tested it again by following your steps and it did indeed not work.

I then tested my steps again and then it also did not work.

I am currently not sure if I made a mistake for my first test or if something specific breaks it or can make it work again.

Anyway it's better checked by the developers.

It's really weird how Autodesk, the Maya team in this case, can't just follow a simple basic rule, that is "If it ain't broken, don't fix it".

How such a basic and yet important feature, present in Maya since the beginning of time, can be broken this way is beyond me.

Maya 2025 has the same issue.

😕

Message 13 of 18

Hi @MannaTheBerserk ,

I believe i am seeing the same issue, but wanted to check and confirm i am doing the right thing to reproduce the issue you are explaining:

  • Make a poly cube
  • Make a nurbs surface cube
  • Assign both with a new material with a bright color
  • Within the hypershade, select that material
  • Navigate to Edit > Select objects with material
  • Note that it only selects the poly cube, not the nurbs cube

Does that reproduce the issue you are explaining? I can take this to the team and make sure this is something that is working as intended, or an issue that we can log. Appreciate you resurfacing this!

Warm regards,

That is exactly what happens and what I have done to reproduce the issue.

Thank you very much! 🙂

No problems at all.

Thanks for the support. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Hi again @MannaTheBerserk,

Closing the loop here, I checked in with QA and they reproduced and logged the issue, noting that it is working in Maya 2022. While I can't give out specific dates or ID's, the team is aware of the issue now, and more information will be forthcoming.

Really appreciate you taking the time to call attention to this!
