Rotation tool disappears on Legacy Default Viewport

Hey, for some reason after a few minutes of working the Rotate tool becomes no longer visible. Translate and Scale are still there. The Rotate tool still works but I can't see the gizmo and reseting the tool doesn't work. However, if I switch to Viewport 2.0 it shows up. I noticed that deleting the prefs folder fixes it but I can't pinpoint what caused it to begin with. Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous

Does resetting your prefs fix it permanently or does it eventually come back?

What GPU are you using and is the driver version the same as our certified hardware list?

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Lastly. what version of Maya are you using and is it up to date?

Hey Sean, thanks for the quick reply

I'll get back to you with the GPU on Monday.
But no, it comes back after a bit even after resetting. So resetting is just temporary
Version is Maya 2018.5

Thanks again,

Marcelo

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for that info!

For the 1080 our certified driver version is version 398.82. So I would recommend rolling back to that driver version and you can find a download for it here!

Please let me know if this helps!

Hey Sean,

Sorry it took me a while to reply.
I forgot to mention that I'm using Linux x64, so that version doesn't really work. I searched on Autodesk's website and couldn't find version 398.82 for Linux. Which one of these should I try to get? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous

What distro of Linux are you using? Maya only officially supports CentOS so if you are using a different distro this may be happening due to compatibility issues.

Yep, it's CentOS! Here's a screenshot of the specs:

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm ok.

You can try one of the older drivers near the bottom of the list but this may be an issue with the legacy viewport.

Can you possibly post a video of this happening on your machine so I can pass it along to the developers?

If you need a video capturing program, Screencast is a great option that we use here at Autodesk

I made a GIF, hopefully that works. I shift between Legacy Viewport and Viewport 2.0 to show the issue.

Here I try to reset the tool settings to see if it was in hide mode by mistake, but no success.

Let me know if this works or if you need more

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sharing that!

This may indeed be an issue specifically with legacy viewport so I went ahead and passed your information and GIFs along to our development team so they can begin looking into this and confirm if it is indeed an issue that needs to be fixed.

I can't really do that, it's not a personal computer it's a company one.

I guess I'll have to just deal with it for now.
Thanks for all the help and hope the info is useful for the team.

Has there been any progress on this? My workplace is plagued by the problem. We're using Maya 2018.5 on CentOS Linux 7, Quadro P4000 on Nvidia Driver 410.66

Artists aren't happy with having to delete their preferences every other day. Particularly frustrating to discover the issue after waiting (in some cases) 15-20 minutes for a big shot to load just to restart again.
