Opening Hypershade freezes Maya (2026, 2023)

Hey all,

Running into this issue—when I click Hypershade, it opens a blank white window and completely freezes Maya (no crash, just freeze).  Happens in multiple versions of Maya; this just happened for me in 2026, but I remember it happening to me in 2023 a couple of months back.  Seemed to become an issue out of the blue, as I'd had no problem opening Hypershade up until maybe 3 or 4 months ago.  Tried resetting preferences as well as a couple of one-off solutions I scoured from the internet, but no dice.  Don't think I've got an error log to show because it doesn't get to the point of crashing.  That said, I'm happy to provide as much info as possible to help resolve this.

Well here's an update: I got my Hypershade to open—all I had to do was disable Color Management in Preferences (inspired by a comment here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-shading-lighting-and/maya-2020-fatal-error-when-hypershade-is-ope...).  I guess Hypershade doesn't play nicely with Color Management (or maybe certain rendering spaces)!
