Maya 2020 - fatal error when hypershade is opened

Hi,

I recently purchased Maya 2020 Indie and was working on a scene just fine until I opened the hypershade and got a fatal error. I tried starting with a fresh empty scene and got another fatal error when opening the hypershade again. So far I've also tried deleting prefs and re-installing to no success. It just immediately fatal errors on me, doesn't even fully load the hypershade.

My specs are: AMD Ryzen 9 3900x, 1080ti, 64gb ram, Windows 10

I've attached my latest crash log too.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Still having the issue.

I followed this Youtube video (https://youtu.be/mA5yiKL-WnA) which solved the hypershade crash but started creating more issues like: very slow view port performance, and a warning stating Maya failed to apply color management settings on start-up.

I uninstalled Maya as per Autodesk's "Perform a Clean Uninstall" doc and re-installed. Viewport performance is back and no more errors about color management but now I'm back to crashing when the hypershade is opened.

Please help, I bought the indie license back at the end of May and I haven't been able to really use it because of this. I'm a lighting and shading artist so it's kind of my meat and potatoes.

Thanks

Still having this issue. I've resorted to just using the node editor which isn't ideal.

I'm pretty frustrated right now. My first post here was June 11th, I also submitted an error report (after crash) for the hypershade issue and have never heard back beyond the confirmation that it was recieved. Don't know what else to do at this point. I mean at least respond and tell me you don't know what the problem is, maybe point me to where I can go to apply for a refund.

Recently ran into the same issue. never had problems before and that to say I'm using maya since version 2011! Recently activated bifröst. since then each time I add a arnold shader and open hypershade it freezes for approx. 6 seconds, then crashes without report.

I already did a clean reinstall, changed my gpu driver to an older version before it happend. but since 2 weeks now, I am unable to get it to work.
And this means a lot to me since I'm a tutor in maya and can not show my students how to get things done.

I'm also getting this error. It gives me an error dialogue stating it failed to save to the local appdata folder. This only happened once I installed Arnold, I have a decently robust computer (not that I'm doing anything super high res or anything) so I don't usually get any errors, slowdowns, etc.. Hope this thread comes back to life, I'll keep sending sad error reports to Autodesk and see what happens. Here's what I've been getting on my end.

Two suggestions since I overdone my computer:

a) reinstall your OS

b) try out Maya 2022

Because since I had a clean install of Windows I only installed Maya 2022 and 2012 (just for Mental Ray) and Arnold worked. Had some crashes, but nevermind it wasn't because of hypeshade and arnold anymore.

Only thing to wait is for the implementation of Ambient Occlusion baking in Transfer Maps (just like it was back in times with Mental Ray). Turtle is way too complicated for my students to use as their first bake instrument.

Happy tryout 🙂

Hello everyone. I was having the same issue and found that the problem for me was that Arnold wasn't installed properly.

All I did was:
a) Reopened the Maya 2020 setup/installer.
b) See that everything but Arnold 2020 greyed out when selecting what to install.
c) Make sure Arnold is selected
d) Install

It should go through the process of "installing Maya", but it's just fixing Arnold. Hope that helps! 😄
