Not respecting render camera

Let's say I have Camera A and Camera B.

I'm using Camera A as my static camera to render from, and Camera B as my perspective camera to move around.

- Camera B has unchecked the Renderable option from it's attributes under output settings, Camera A has it enabled.

- Camera A is listed as the only Renderable Camera under render settings, in the common tab.

Therefore it would be completely normal to assume Maya would only render from Camera A, and I don't blame you, it sounds like common sense, but this is not the case.

If I'm moving around my scene using Camera B and hit render, it outputs a render from Camera B besides from Camera A, it's basically rendering from the camera being currently used, if I switch to left view and hit render, it renders from the left camera

Why is that happening and how do I force Maya to render from a specific camera?

Hi @Anonymous

What version of Maya are you working with and is it up to date?

What you described is correct and the render should be happening from the static camera you set to be the render for in the render settings.

If you create a new blank scene with a cube and two cameras and follow the same steps does the same issue occur?

One quick test/workaround you could do is right before the render go to Panels->Persp and then select your render camera.

Please let me know if anything changes!

Hi!

In Maya in Render View you can render from any camera you want.

Just manual select the wanted camera in the Render View you use for rendering.

Right click on top of rendered scene inside the render view on top of your image rendered with wrong camera click render>render>change persp to your desired render camera, Maya seems to respect all other changes inside render settings besides the render camera setting, and it's annoying, also, it's not a new problem.

Yes I still get this issue in 2025 using Arnold. All cameras have 'renderable' turned off except 'rendercam'. However opening arnold render view it always defaults to persp?
