It's been a VERY long time since I last used Maya. I'm using Maya 2014. I remember there being some controls at the top of the screen which would rotate, pan, and zoom the SCREEN (not the object, per se - those are done with the controls on the left).
I can't find these controls at all, and I'm having trouble manipulating the screen without them. Can anyone direct me on where to find them? There's a double-headed arrow that zooms you in & out, a plus-shaped thing (if I remember right) that pans, and another control that rotates the screen.

Hi!
Please check the Maya online help:

Well, that gives me the tools - except there used to be a toolbar for it (like if you click on curves, you get all the curve tools); I remember being able to click on the icon for the tool I needed, rather than selecting from the menu.
Hi!
I don't remember such a Shelf Tab, but there is a shelf named "General" that can be loaded manually.
Click on the Shelf menu ( button at the left side of the Shelf) and then:
Load Shelf... -> shelf_General.mel
You can also use the "Custom" tab or create a new Shelf and then add there all tools you need.
For further help, please show a screenshot of what you are missing.
