My textures are not loaded fully for both models; why is that happening and how to fix it?

I am relatively new to using Maya and I'm trying to make an animation for my final with two models. I created reference for both models and when I try to turn on the textures for both, there's always one model whose texture just won't load until I manually fix it (and repeating the cycle for when I find that the OTHER model doesn't have a particular texture loaded).
