Move Rotate Resize tool problems

HI i have been using Maya 2017 for the past 3 years to teach a 3D modelling class. Most of the issues that have come up i have been able to get sorted. But yesterday in the middle of demonstration to the class a major problem occurred. it also occurred on all the students computers at the same time.  I created a sphere and rotated it by 30 degrees and when i went to resize it the pivot point was also  offset by 30 degrees. This has never happened before. i went in to the tool settings and reset  the tool which only reset it for one move and it reverted back again. it happened on all the students computers at the same time. when i went back and reset the tool again the move tool vanished  this also  happened on the students computers. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Anthony

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

If you double click on the scale tool icon to open the settings what is the Axis orientation set to?

I just tried to reproduce your issue and the tool was indeed rotated 30 degrees because my axis orientation was set to Local. Once I changed it back to world it appeared back in its "normal" position.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Thank you Sean. I did this but it just gave me one action and reverted back again it also happened on all the students computers when they completed one action. Also the second time we tried it the move tool disappeared. Never had any issue like this before. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Anthony

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm ok.

If you close Maya and re-open it does this still happen or is it happening randomly then going away when you restart?

Also what version of 2017 are you using? Update 5?

Finally, could you possibly post a video of this issue? I'd like to try and see if it's a reproduce able issue or if its specific to your environment.

If you need a video capturing program, Screencast is a great option that we use here at Autodesk

Hi yes we closed the program and restarted all the computers the problem was on and the same issue arose plus the move tool disappeared. one of the computers was not affected. which i thought was strange. The college is on mid term break until  Monday 5 nov so it will be next week when i get a chance to resolve the issue. Thanks Anthony

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the update as strange as it is!

Once you're back, aside from trying the steps I mentioned could you also take a look at the one machine that wasn't affected and see if there's any noticeable differences with it compared to the rest of the machines?
