Maya is automatically naming objects with the names of their parent groups. Help

Hi all,

I've got a problem in Maya where the it seems to be automatically renaming my objects with the name of the groups that they are in.

As you can see below, the bit on the end of each name after the last "GRP" part of the name is what I actually called the object. But when I closed the file and reopened it (due to maya crashing, unrelated), the name of the objects in my scene have taken this form!

Can anybody help me? I've already had to rename everything once, I really don't want to have to do it again.

I've noticed that this is happening on the shape (mesh) nodes as well as the transform nodes for the individual polygon objects. (This is the outliner with the Shape nodes shown).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@PixelDeluxe

Can you please PM me the file you are having this issue with, as this seems very unusual.  you can PM me a link if possible so we can troubleshoot on our end.  BTW do you have a version of the file before the name space issue occurred?  I look forward to your reply,  thank you.
