Maya crashes when opening file

Hi,

I reinstalled Windows on my PC a few days ago so I also had to reinstall Maya and since then I've been getting regular crashes mostly at opening some files or right in the middle of working. At first I had no clue what was the problem because it only happened in some of the scenes. These scenes were ones in which i put multiple image planes because I want to model something based of some photos. Today when it crashed again I went to see the CrashLogs of all the crashes that happened over the past days and all seem to point at C:\Program Files\Autodesk Maya\Maya2020\bin\mayaOpenImageIO.dll
Now I'm guessing theres something wrong with the "mayaOpenImageIO.dll" file which probably does the job of opening image files in Maya. Can someone help me solving this issue? Might a Reinstall fix it or can I download this file from somewhere, where its not corrupted or so.

Help would be much appreciated!

Hi @jansoelter.jpsl

Check you are using updated driver of your graphics card.

if driver is updated then can you share your file here?

My Driver was updated yes. It actually happens only in certain files. But I'm not sure if it has to do with the project workspace. I've attached the newest file in which I had the problem

Your scene is more prone to crash when opened via File>Open, less when dragged into Maya, perhaps some problems with loading scripts, so you can disable ExecuteScriptNodes flag in Open options/dialog.

Also, since Maya is so picky about pathnames, I would suggest avoiding spaces in your paths , like you have ../3D Objects/Maya/3D Projekte aller Art/sourceimages/Marcel Rasieraufsatz/.. which is four, and then yet one in the filename, and replace at least the scene names with underscore _ .

Ok so I tried all of your suggestions but for this scene none of them helped...it just crashed again all the time. Is that normal/expected when crashes happened before? Its not really important that I get that scene to work again so its not really a problem. But I will definitely pay attention with the spaces!

Is your Maya otherwise all functional without warning and error messages displaying paths? If you have some, like invoking rendering, xgen, loading plugins, then that is yet another reason to change entire user name, which in turn will change Maya user profile pathname.. Although, most Maya functions swap spaces and brackets for underscores, there might be some which don't. Not neccesarily solution to your crashes, yet it is good to have one potential cause less.

Since I reinstalled windows I dont think I had any other errors. A few months ago I had some problems when rendering a scene for uni. I think I had too many high resolution textures in that scene so when I tried rendering with GPU instead of CPU (I have an RTX 3060 TI) it just immediately crashed. But as I said that was before and has nothing to do with this problem anymore.

What do you mean by changing entire username?

this saved me, dragging the file in to an already open maya got my work back. otherwise maya would always crash on load for a certain file.

That means your file still have problems. It could get corrupted and never open again.Have you taken the proper steps to protect your work from vanishing?

No becuase I have no idea which part of the file is causing the issue, but I have bifrost and retopology workflows in the file, which start up on file start.

It indicates that rather than saving and loading the result in to the file. it only saves and runs the stack that builds the result.

I also have an unusual multi monitor setup and on load it was trying to put all the windows back in position.

again, I have no idea, exactly what was causing the issue.
