Maya crashes everytime I open, save, and import any file

For the past couple of days, I have made multiple attempts to model dentures for an upcoming character and the file always crashes every time I open it, even creating a new file in case of a corruption and maya is still crashing. I followed steps to change my preferences and resetting maya and still no resolution. I'm out of options on what to do and it seems like I can't model any hard surfaces.

If anyone could help me with this problem, that would mean a lot!

Hi @ahays.1

A quick test you can try is deleting your settings/preferences and/or you may want to perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya.

If that doesn't help, when you get a chance can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it? If the file is confidential or under NDA please send it to me in a private message instead of posting it here.

I appreciate the advice that you provided. Unfortunately, I did try those
steps previously and I'm still having issues. I believe it involves every
time I use the smooth tool for my polygons and with an educational license
being a part of the problem. I will provide the files that I attempted to
use to continue creating teeth for my character.

Hi @ahays.1

Thanks for sending me the files!

I just tried opening, saving, importing and smoothing in all of the files and had no issues or crashes.

When your Maya crashes, does it generate an error report for you to fill out and submit to Autodesk? If so, please fill it out and let me know what the error report says!

If that doesn't help, you may want to try exporting the models to an FBX and then import that into a new Maya scene and try saving that.

Unfortunately, the same problem is still happening. I’m wondering if my student license is playing a role in it

Hi!

This is very likely a problem of your GPU / driver and not of the student license.

Update the driver for your GPU or try an other GPU.

Also try "Maya Catmull-Clark" for your Smooth Mesh Preview, or simply don't use it at all.

Hi @ahays.1

The student license is not the problem. Please try @mspeer 's suggestions and check your GPU driver to make sure they are up to date and/or the same version as our certified hardware list.

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Steps to update your drivers can be found here!
