Hi,
Some selection logic has changed from previous maya versions, not sure if it was intended or a bug -
In previous maya versions if you had a mesh set to singled sided and had camera-based selection turned off - then marquee selecting a bunch of faces would select all the faces within the marquee even faces that are behind faces that you cant see from the camera.
In 2022 with the same settings it now acts as if you have camera-based selection and will only select the faces seen by the camera. Now if I change the mesh to double-sided it will properly select all faces including faces not seen by the camera. This is very inconvenient since we work with single sided meshes.

I'm observing the same behaviour and it doesn't feel right. Found a workaround for now: seems like it will work as expected if you enable the "Select faces with: Center" option in Preferences - Selection. But this is just a workaround, still.

Hi!
This is a new bug and the result of an other very old bug being fixed in Maya 2022.
In previous Maya versions Viewport 2.0 ignored Backface Culling for selection. This was not the case with Legacy Viewport. This bug has been fixed, but sadly now also disabling "Double Sided" impacts the selection behavior, which was not the case with Legacy Viewport and it should also not happen with Viewport 2.0 .
It should already be reported, but if you want you can report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.
In Maya main menu:
Help -> Speak Back -> Report a Problem

Hi All, I am also experiencing this issue. Is there a workaround that works for everyone yet?

Hi!
Use Legacy Viewport or make sure "Double Sided" is enabled.

Thanks for the reply, I also found a setting that was breaking things for me, I had Backculling enabled for the vertices which is not working at all and causes all sorts of other selection issues.

I've had similar issues recently in Maya 2023 where backfaces were unelectable even when using UV shell selection in the 3D view. I managed to solve this issue by disabling Camera-Based Selection and Highlight Nearest Component in the common selection options. Hope that helps someone!

Hi,
I had the same issue, took me a while to figure it out. But this solved it for me : shift + right clic in the viewport -> polygon display all -> reset display for all polys.
